Taiwan's First EV Charging Station Carbon Credit Project Registered with Verra: eTreego Contributes Charging Equipment and Data to TEVCS

As the climate crisis intensifies, transportation emissions have become one of today's most pressing issues. The growing adoption of electric vehicles is driving a new wave of decarbonization. Powered by electricity, EVs significantly reduce carbon emissions, and those reductions can now be turned into internationally recognized carbon credits.
The Taiwan EV Charging Station Carbon Credit Project (TEVCS), led by UpAssets in partnership with the Kaohsiung City Government, National Tsing Hua University, eTreego, and its brand gochabar, was registered under the international Verra carbon standard in July 2026. It is Taiwan's first transportation-focused carbon credit project developed through public–private–academic collaboration to achieve Verra registration. The results were officially presented on September 30 at the sustainability forum "New Engine for Net-Zero Transportation: Advancing into the Era of Carbon Credits," with eTreego General Manager Jimmy Chien in attendance.
Launched in 2024: Opening the Door to International Carbon Markets
Launched in late 2024, TEVCS went through stakeholder engagement, data collection, project design, and international review before achieving registration under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
Verra is the world's largest and one of the most widely recognized carbon credit standards, and TEVCS is currently the only project of its kind in Taiwan to apply for and achieve registration. This gives emission reductions from EV charging in Taiwan a clear pathway to align with international carbon credit standards, turning transportation decarbonization from a policy goal into results that can be measured, verified, and recognized.
eTreego's Role: Supplying Charging Equipment and Critical Data
Each partner in TEVCS has a clearly defined role: UpAssets manages the carbon credit platform and application, gochabar contributes to platform development, and the charging equipment serves as the project's key data source.
eTreego supplies the charging equipment, which works hand in hand with gochabar's backend system. Every charging session is captured at the device level, consolidated in the backend, and delivered as the charging data required for the carbon credit application. This data then flows into the carbon credit platform, forming a solid foundation for measuring and reporting emission reductions.
Why Charging Data Matters: Making Carbon Credits Traceable
Credibility is at the heart of every carbon credit. To earn credits, a project must complete a full measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) process, with every reduction backed by traceable data. For EV charging carbon credits, the data from each charging session directly determines whether the project passes verification. That depends on stable equipment, complete charging records, and reliable backend management and aggregation. This is why charging equipment providers are indispensable to carbon credit projects.

Industry Impact: New Opportunities from Carbon Credits
Once emission reductions meet the standard and credits are issued, their economic value can help improve the return on investment and operating conditions of charging infrastructure, encouraging more businesses to invest in low-carbon transportation. For the charging industry, a charging station's value no longer stops at supplying power. It now extends to managing and leveraging emission reductions. We look forward to applying what we've learned from this project to help our partners take part in carbon credit markets.
What's Next: Verification Begins in Q4 2026
TEVCS will continue to build its record of emission reductions and monitoring data, with verification expected to begin in Q4 2026 and Verra credit issuance targeted for Q2 2027. eTreego will keep leveraging its charging equipment and data management capabilities, working with public, private, and academic partners to advance transportation decarbonization in Taiwan and make every charge count.
