Fifteen years ago, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) established the Charging Alliance to develop charging standards for two- and four-wheeled electric vehicles. eTreego's general manager, then working at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, participated in this Ministry of Economic Affairs technology project, including initiating the alliance and drafting charging pile safety regulations, playing a key role in the development of these standards. The general manager explained that, without a strong automotive industry and a limited domestic market, Taiwan's development of charging technology was largely in sync with other countries. Qi Er Xing, a startup established by ITRI in 2017, consolidated its resources within the institute, securing its leading position despite the fierce investment from major electromechanical manufacturers.
eTreego has partnered with renowned charging infrastructure providers such as "YES! Call," FET, HE JUN electronic, and Shiling Electric to build a significant market share. Cumulative shipments of charging stations for cars and motorcycles have reached 30,000 and 10,000 kW, respectively. Motorcycle charging stations have been exported to 12 countries. Car charging stations began exporting to Japan this year and will enter the US market next year, demonstrating their international competitiveness.
The charging industry tends to be ranked based on wattage, giving eTreego a clear lead. The general manager explained that because the scale and number of charging stations vary widely, and the power of AC and DC charging stations varies by tens of times, rankings based on charging stations, charging piles, or wattage can lead to vastly different results.
Under the business positioning of charging equipment manufacturing, eTreego is a hidden brand that is not easily seen by consumers in charging fields; Qi Er Xing retreats to the second line of the market, providing OEM services for charging operators, just like TSMC maintains its expertise in wafer foundry and maintains its territory. In addition to original shareholders such as ITRI, Qiaowei, and Lide, eTreego has successively introduced heavyweight legal shareholders such as Shiling Electric and Hotai Motor. Shiling Electric's production lines and manufacturing technology are used to produce charging piles, HE JUN ENERGY builds charging stations for operation, and HE JUN ENERGY is affiliated with the Hotai Motor Group. Both are important strategic partners that can add points to operations.
